Moving to a foreign country is an amazing, life-changing experience. However, before embarking on such an adventure, there is the matter of choosing where to live. Will you stay in a rented apartment? Will you share a flat with other foreigners? For me, living with a family is the best choice. Firstly, a family can show you around the city or town and help you settle in, stopping you from feeling lonely and overwhelmed. Moreover, it will help improve language skills. Finally, the experience of living abroad is one that you will remember forever, and perhaps the friendships – like the memories – will also last.    B. Almost everybody likes to relax, to visit new places and see new things. Holidays are obviously great ways to do this but, before booking a trip, we all have to decide with whom to go. Holidays with family can be hard work and there can be many arguments. Not everybody in the family wants to do the same things. One friend told me that both she and her sister were in tears after arguing on holiday … before their flight had even taken off! In my own family, Dad always wants to go to a museum, Mum and sister want to shop, and I want to go to a coffee shop alone. The majority rules and we end up shopping.    C. One of the hardest parts of living abroad is being away from your loved ones, especially your family. While my friends are so important to me, I’ve personally found it more difficult being away from family. Although I will try to visit for my sister’s actual birthday in June, the chance for my sister and my mum to visit became a birthday treat. While it can be difficult being away from home and potentially missing big moments, there are ways to avoid the sadness and find a way to make the best of your situation to instead create an unforgettable memory.    D. Coming from a mixed heritage, my parents have always ensured that we celebrate both English and Indian festivals. Diwali is also known as the festival of lights as it is traditional to light up your house with an impressive array of candles and small clay oil lamps to symbolise the triumph of good over evil. As a family we spend most of the day preparing the house by cleaning and decorating it before the evening party begins. The evening party is a welcomed excuse for family and friends to come together, enjoy a varied and plentiful selection of flavoursome Indian dishes and dance the night away.   E. One of the main things that’s great about living at home is the familiarity. Living with your family is, oftentimes, really comfortable – you know everyone extremely well, you’ve lived with them your whole life, so you’re in a routine, and that can be really nice. The great thing about living at home is that, most of the time, you don’t have to pay rent. However, if you stay at home, there’s a chance you might feel stuck in your old life. If you’re at university, you might still feel like... it’s like you’re still at school and you don’t have the freedom or the independence to go and live your own life.   F. Eating together just might be the ultimate parenting hack. What else can you do in an hour that will improve your kids' academic performance, increase their self-esteem, improve cardiovascular health, and reduce their risk of substance misuse, depression, teen pregnancy, and obesity? As well as the inevitable baby equipment, kids’ clothes, buggies and bikes, suddenly your property is home to a deluge of children’s toys, as well-meaning relatives give items to your little ones – not to mention the toys you buy them yourself. While decluttering your own stuff can be tricky, when it comes to your kids’ toys, there’s other challenges to face, including sentimental attachment, knowing which items to keep for younger siblings and of course, avoiding a major meltdown if your little darling finds out their possession has been donated to the local charity shop."
