Exercise Nº 8:
In the street I live, there are two hotels. In each hotel, there are five floors. On each floor, there are ten rooms. In each room, there is a bathroom. In each bathroom, there are two bars of soap. Then one day, a thief steals half the soap bars.
- Total number of hotels = 2
- Total number of floors in each hotel = 5
- Total number of rooms on each floor = 10
Calculating the total number of rooms: 2 hotels × 5 floors/hotel × 10 rooms/floor = 100 rooms.
Calculating total bars of soap: Each room has 2 bars of soap: 100 rooms × 2 bars/room = 200 bars of soap.
After the thief steals half of the soap bars: 200 bars ÷ 2 = 100 bars stolen.
Calculating bars of soap remaining: 200 bars - 100 bars confiscated = 100 bars left.
Answer: one hundred bars of soap are left in total in the rooms.
