Welcome to the show "Travelers' Tales," where people share their vacation experiences. We spoke with four individuals about what went wrong on their vacations last year and what they will do differently this year.

Last year, we drove around Switzerland. We visited historic towns and villages and saw amazing landscapes. But before leaving home, we didn’t check the car, which was a big mistake. It broke down in the middle of unfamiliar territory, and we spent a cold night in the car. This year, we are going to Poland for our vacation, and we will definitely check the car before we leave!

I’m going to England in July for a hiking trip. The last time I went hiking in the UK, my friend and I kept getting lost. It’s hard to read a map in the rain! This time, we are going to join an organized trip with someone else, a hike leader. We’re also going to pack more warm clothing than last time. The weather in the English countryside can be cold even in the middle of summer.

This fall, I’m going to Italy to see Rome. The weather is different from England, and the old buildings are simply wonderful! If you like ancient architecture, Italy is a must-visit. Last year, I got lost in the back streets while taking photos. Unfortunately, I soon filled my camera's memory card. Buying a new one in a tourist area cost a fortune, so I plan to buy a couple of cheap memory cards before I go this time.

My friends and I love sailing, and this year we are renting a boat in the Scottish Highlands, just like last year. But this time we’re going in June. Last year we went in September, and everyone caught a cold. I hope this year we have drier weather. I’ll definitely go for a swim if it’s sunny. We’re planning to camp because it’s not as expensive as a hotel. But if the weather forecast is bad, I’ll book a room somewhere before we leave.
