He is going to shoot one to study in the UK, but the second bear saves his life by removing a scorpion from his vest. The geographer finds out that these bears can speak English and love marmalade, he calls them Lucy and Pastuzo. As he leaves, the geographer gives his hat to Pastuzo and says that they are always welcome in London. Many years later, the bears live with their nephew. But an earthquake destroys their house and Pastuzo dies. Lucy sends her nephew to London, and she goes to a nursing home for bears. In London, the bear arrives at Paddington Station, where he meets the Brown family. They take him home and name him after the station. Henry, the father of the family, is against leaving him, but his wife, Mary, and children, Jonathan and Judy, persuade him to leave the bear. Paddington wants to find a geographer whom his uncle and aunt met, and Mary takes him to the owner of an antique store, who discovers that there is a seal of the Guild of Geographers on the hat.
