Robinson was the only survivor but he collected useful things from the ship before it sank: tools, seeds and guns. He made his home in a cave, planted corn and had tame* goats for milk and meat. He was happy on his island until one day he saw something… "This afternoon, I was walking along the beach when I saw the footprint of a man in the sand! I listened and I looked round me but I couldn't hear or see anything. One day, I saw some canoes on my side of the island. Through my telescope, I watched the cannibals with two prisoners. Suddenly, one of them escaped and ran along the beach very fast and came towards my cave. Two of the cannibals ran after him, but I decided to try to save the poor man's life. The man was frightened. I took him to my cave and gave him food and water. Soon, he fell asleep and when he woke up I began to talk to him and teach him to speak to me. I called him Friday, because it was the day I saved his life.
