Economies may usually be divided into the following main sectors:
Primary Sector: This sector includes the production, processing, and packaging of various raw materials and basic foods. In fact, in many developed and developing countries, a decreasing amount of workers is involved in this sector.
Secondary Sector: This sector manufactures finished goods. It encompasses industries that produce goods through the processing of raw materials.
Tertiary Sector: This sector is the service industry. It provides different services to individuals and businesses, including retail, hospitality, education, healthcare, and more.
Quaternary Sector: This sector refers to intellectual activities of both individuals and businesses. It includes services related to knowledge, research, and development, as well as information technology.
Quinary Sector: Some economists point out one more sector, which is said to be a branch of the quaternary one. It is called the quinary sector. It includes the top executives or officials that work in such spheres as government, science, nonprofit, healthcare, culture, and the media.
