Spring
Spring includes three calendar months: March, April, and May. Spring is shorter than summer, but longer than autumn and winter. It begins on March 1st and lasts for 92 days, encompassing five sub-seasons: from March 1st to March 17th, from March 18th to April 15th, from April 16th to May 5th, from May 6th to May 21st, and from May 22nd to May 31st.
The weather in spring is changeable. There are short and prolonged springs, early and late springs. "An early spring is worth nothing." A late spring has a beneficial effect on the development of living nature; it arrives at the beginning of April. "A late spring won’t deceive you." Long icicles signify a long spring. The early flight of bees indicates a long, protracted spring.
Time
According to Bianki's Forest Calendar, spring is the time of mass arrival of birds to their homeland. The first to arrive are those birds that left last, and the last to arrive are those that left first. These include rooks, seagulls, cranes, wild geese, ducks, nightingales, and swallows.
The last to arrive are birds with bright plumage, such as kingfishers, blackcaps, and others. The very last to arrive are orioles, when bright young leaves appear on the trees. At the end of February and the beginning of March, it is the time for wolves and foxes to have their weddings.
