Hello Mary, 1 have found some information for our Project about the origins of the Winter Olympic Games. Please, read this information. The tirst organized international winter sports competition was introduced five years after the birth of the modern Olympies in 1896. They were known as the Nordic Games because this competition had athletes from the Nordic countries (such as Finland, Norway and Sweden). The competition was held eight times between 1901 and 1926. The Swedish capital of Stockholm organised al] or them except one, In 1903 the Nordic Games were held in Norway Nowadays there are different Winter Olympic sports. One of the most popular is figure skating- It became an Olympic sport for the first time in the 1908 Summer Games in London, although the skating competition was not held until October. In fact, the competition was held three months after the other events were over. Although the Nordie countries did not like the idea of organizing the Winter Olympic Games, winter sports returned to the Olympics for the 1920 Games in Antwerp, Belgium, where medals were awarded in figure skating and ice hockey Swedish skaters won the women S and men' S singles competitions, while skaters trom Finland won the pairs. Another Swedish skater won the silver in women's singles, while Norwegians got silver medals in the men S and pairs events, as well as the bronze in the men's singles. Only the British team and American Theresa Weld, who won the bronze medals in pairs and women's singles, respectively were not from Scandinavia. Canada won the gold medal inice hockey, with the United States winning silver and Czechoslovakia finishing with the bronze. From 1928 to 1992 the Winter Games were held every four years in the same calendar year as the Summer Games. Only two years separated the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. France, and the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway. Since then, the Winter and Summer Games have been each held at four-year intervals, alternating in even-numbered years. The next Summer Olympics Games will be in 2028 in the USA and the next Winter Olympic Games will be hA.
