Fear is a basic human emotion that is necessary for survival. When faced with danger, the brain reacts by activating the nervous system, leading to the fight or flight response. It's amazing that all of this happens in just a few seconds! However, fear is not always beneficial. For people with phobias, such as acrophobia (fear of heights) or claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces), fear greatly restricts their lives. For example, a teenager who was bitten by a dog as a child may be afraid to see dogs, reducing their ability to socialize with friends and causing other issues. Between 5 and 10% of the population have phobias, but they can be overcome. It is important to start facing your fears by creating a list from least scary to most scary and gradually confronting them.
