A day in London It was an afternoon in London. It had just stopped raining — the whole sky was as though someone had put a soft grey cloth over a lamp, and the sun was far away and muted. As Jane headed out of her hotel, the sky got clear again. The girl had her tartan scarf wrapped around her neck and as much of her face as was acceptable without looking like a Scottish ninja. This was a free day of her trip, so she had planned ahead, but not too much. She had a lot of time. Instead of taking the Tube or taxi, Jane decided to take one of the famous double-decker buses to her first destination. She was on her way to Covent Garden to have lunch with her friend, who came from Scotland to visit her before she went back to the USA. On the bus, Jane was watching the city pass by out of the big window. She was listening to The Beatles' album Abbey Road to better feel the vibe of the place. What was the best part of the route, was a great opportunity to observe the city from a new perspective. It was fun to see the streets from a higher view point! Jane's friend met her in Neal's Yard, and it was her new favourite place in the city. Neal's Yard was a small street in Covent Garden full of vibrant restaurants, cafes, and stores. Jane thought it was one of London's hidden gems! Two ladies sat in a cosy cafe and ordered some vegan food and herbal tea. Nothing would complete the day like a delicious meal. The rest of the afternoon was free, so they went to the Donmar Warehouse theatre to see an incredible play. There was no reason to watch TV-shows while in London, as the drama was right there on the stage. Jane was pleased to experience that creative artistic vibe. The tickets were affordable as well — Jane and her friend spent £30 on two seats that were far from the stage. However, she could see everything well and didn't miss a thing. After the play, Jane kissed her friend goodbye and started her way back to the hotel. It was surprising how a "free day" in London quickly became a "busy day." Jane decided to take the Underground, but on her way, she suddenly realised that she wanted to get off. As she left the Tube and looked around, she could see the London Eye over the bridge and Big Ben was rising above her. Parliament was shining in the rays of the setting sun. As the girl looked up at the impressive monument of Winston Churchill, she understood that it was getting late. So, she walked around the square, enjoying the architecture of the Abbey, and then went back to the station. Jane was ready for some more tea and a nice rest from her very full free day. 13.
