Technological advance made travelling an ordinary part of our life. People travel for different reasons: to find a better job or place of living; to develop business contacts; to study foreign languages etc. Millions of tourists spend their holidays travelling: to see other countries and cultures, to enjoy picturesque places, to meet new people, to try exotic food and activities. Those who live in the country would like to go to a big city and visit museums, do shopping, dine at restaurants. City-dwellers may prefer a quiet holiday by the sea, in the mountains or in the countryside. Holidaymakers are increasingly choosing vacation which brings them to nature. They would rather go rambling, trekking or backpacking, or engage themselves into rafting, canoeing, pony-trekking or biking. We can travel by train, by plane, by boat and by car, hitch-hiking and on foot. All means of travel have their advantages and disadvantages. We choose them according to our plans and destinations. It goes without saying that traveling by air is the fastest and the most comfortable way, although it is not always safe and is pretty expensive. Going by train has its strong points. There are no traffic jams, and you can use your time in different ways: reading, working, talking with other passengers etc. Moreover, high-speed trains can cover long distances within several hours. However, trains as well as planes are sometimes delayed. Sea voyages provide your best impressions and memories unless you are sea-sick. They may be extremely comfortable and even luxurious, but it makes them expensive. Travelling by car takes you from door to door. Another advantage is that you can plan your journey and stop wherever you want. But it may be stressful and tiring, especially for a driver. Hitch-hiking is cheap but risky, and it is likely to take more time than you have planned. Walking is good for your health and your wallet. You can take your time and enjoy beautiful nature. But if your destination is far-away, you can't rely on your feet. Besides, it is not comfortable. You'd also better decide about the place to live. There are a lot of options for any traveller regarding a place to stay. Depending on age, individual preferences and budget people may choose different types of accommodation. For instance, if they are looking for a low-budget holiday, they may choose between a youth hostel, B & B (Bed and Breakfast) with homelike and friendly atmosphere, a campsite or a self-catering hotel. Family hotels offer more comfort, but they tend to be slightly more expensive. Taking a caravan with you, if you are travelling by car, is a big advantage as you can stop and sleep almost anywhere. Many young people, especially when touring big cities, choose to stay at youth hostels because they are basic and cheap, but at the same time they may turn to be a disadvantage for somebody looking for quiet and peace at night. If you are going to travel abroad you will need your international passport. Unless it's a package tour, book your tickets in advance. When everything is arranged, you should do the packing. As for me, I like to travel light, that's why I take only the first essentials. I also choose clothes that don't need ironing. You may need a pocket dictionary or a phrase-book to communicate with native speakers. If you go abroad by private invitation, it would be nice if you could bring your hosts some gifts. Besides you should also take some souvenirs from your native city. When you arrive at the airport, you have to check in and go through the customs 2 hours before your departure. Your luggage is examined (looked through). It's better to know beforehand what you are allowed to take through the customs. Restrictions depend on the country you go to. Modern tourism is the world's second largest industry. It provides working places and brings profit to the local budget. Unfortunately, every medal has its reverse. Most popular resorts are polluted, ancient monuments are being destroyed by endless march of careless tourists. Trying to change their attitude people develop responsible tourism and ecotourism. Responsible tourism minimizes the negative impact on the environment. Ecotourism is such travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of the local people. On a personal level don't buy cultural artifacts or products made from wild animals, don't litter in the street or/on the beach, respect traditional lifestyles. Task 3. You are going to give a talk about travelling. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10–12 sentences). Remember to say: why most people enjoy travelling; what people like doing while travelling; what place you would like to go to, and why; what your attitude to travelling is. You have to talk continuously.

Good morning everyone. Today I’d like to talk about the joys of travelling. Most people enjoy travelling because it offers a break from everyday life and provides new experiences, sights, and cultures. During trips, people like visiting historical sites, trying exotic food, meeting new friends, and enjoying nature. Travelling broadens our horizons and helps us understand different ways of life. Personally, I love exploring new places and learning about their history and traditions. If I could choose any destination, I would love to visit Japan because of its unique blend of modern technology and ancient culture. I believe travelling is very important because it enriches our minds and creates unforgettable memories. I also think it’s a great way to relax and recharge. In my opinion, everyone should travel at least once to discover the world around them. Overall, I see travelling as a wonderful opportunity for growth and adventure that can be enjoyed safely and responsibly. Thank you.
