Sport for everyone at Selton University Being active at university can improve your mental and physical health, increase your grades and make you feel more included in the student community. At our university, there are many ways you can participate in sport, whether you are a beginner or a top athlete. Sports Village Our International Sports Village, which was opened in 2020, is one of the best in the country. 1 __ It also has a professional athletics track, a gym with a cycling studio and a new climbing wall, which was designed with the help of well-known climber, Philip Harvey. Around the campus, we also have three full-size football pitches, eight tennis courts, hockey and rugby pitches and a nine-hole golf course. Competitive sport We have over 50 sports clubs with more than 400 members, covering everything from athletics to snowboarding. We have many teams competing in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) leagues. Matches against other universities are usually played on Wednesday afternoons. 2 __ As a member of a team, you will also have at least one practice or coaching session a week. Social sport Social sport is all about joining in. Our social sport programmes are for everyone, whether you’re a beginner, want to get fit, play a favourite sport or take up a new sport. There is a huge programme of sessions during the week. We offer many different sports in a fun non-competitive environment. It’s a great opportunity to meet people who have similar interests to you and make new friends. 3 __ We have everything you need from cricket bats and balls to ice skates and skis. Sports scholarships If you are already competing at the highest level of your sport, we’ll give you the maximum support we can, and the opportunity to train with other top athletes. 4 __ Whatever your sport, as an exceptional athlete, you will get free gym membership and a personal exercise programme to improve your strength and fitness. We also have nutritionists who will give you expert advice on which foods will help you achieve maximum performance. Sport for disabled students We are very proud to say that we offer many opportunities for students with disabilities. 5 __ We currently compete in three university para-sports (para-athletics, para-swimming and para-cycling), but our clubs are always aiming to improve opportunities for all students. Other opportunities 6 __ We offer lots of volunteer opportunities, such as helping in the local community with school events. We are also looking for people to design the club websites.
