Dear Sam,

Yes, my grandfather fought in the Great Patriotic War. He served as a medic on the Leningrad front and often tells me how he treated wounded soldiers under danger. He passed down many stories and a small medal he kept all his life.

Victory Day in our school is a solemn ceremony on May 9. We gather in the assembly hall, hear veterans speak when possible, observe a minute of silence, and lay flowers. Students wear ribbons and recite poems; sometimes we perform scenes from wartime plays.

Films we've watched include Ballad of a Soldier (1959) and Come and See (1985); both powerful and different. I’d like to hear your favourite films too.

Yours, Alex
