Ниже приведён пример диалога в паре. Для каждого пункта формулируются косвенные вопросы (как их можно задать, когда говорим о другом человеке) и ответы друга. Вкратце о правилах конверсии: в косвенных вопросах часто ставится союз что/если/whether, времена сдвигаются на один шаг назад (настоящие — прошлое, будущее — условное), местоимения и указательные слова меняются соответственно контексту.

1. I asked my friend what he was and how old he was. He said that he was a student and that he was twenty-one years old.

2. I asked him whether he lived far from the college. He said that he did not live far from the college.

3. I asked him whether he would have an English lesson the next day. He said that he would have an English lesson the next day.

4. I asked him what department he studied at the college. He said that he studied at the college in the Department of Computer Science.

5. I asked him whether he liked computer science. He said that he liked computer science.

6. I asked him what his favorite subject at the college was. He said that his favorite subject at the college was mathematics.

7. I asked him whether he had ever been to Moscow. He said that he had been to Moscow (once).

8. I asked him where he had spent his summer holiday. He said that he had spent his summer holiday in Sochi.

9. I asked him whether he went in for sport. He said that he went in for sport.
