Here's what that SQL fragment does and what it would produce.
What it does
- It builds a string by concatenating several pieces:
- 0x3a is ":" (colon)
- char(64) is "@"
- char(52), char(51), char(55), char(48), char(49) are "4","3","7","0","1" → "43701"
- user() returns the current MySQL user (in the form user@host)
- another char(64) "@" and then
- char(49), char(48), char(55), char(51), char(52) are "1","0","7","3","4" → "10734"
So the result of the expression is: ":@43701" + user() + "@10734"
Example
If the current user is "root@localhost", the output would be: :@43701root@localhost@10734
If the current user is "appuser@dbserver", the output would be: :@43701appuser@dbserver@10734
Notes
- This pattern is often used in SQL injection demos to reveal the database user.
- If you’re studying for an exam, remember how 0x3a and char(n) map to characters and how user() returns the authenticated user.
Caution
- Do not run injection-like payloads on systems you don’t own or have permission to test. Use a controlled lab environment and follow ethical guidelines.
