Short answer

RUN

  1. Dan ran into Jo on his way home.
  2. He ran out of milk, so he went to buy some.
  3. The police are running after a robber.

Exercise 5b

  1. You should go to bed.
  2. You should see a dentist.
  3. You shouldn’t keep them in your pocket.
  4. You shouldn’t worry so much.
  5. You should take off your shoes.

How to understand it

  • run into = meet by chance
  • run out of = have no more of something
  • run after = chase

For advice, use:

\[ \text{should/shouldn’t} + \text{verb} \]

Examples: should go, should see, shouldn’t worry. The verb after should is always in the basic form.

Exercise 5a cannot be completed exactly because the dialogue from Ex. 2 is not visible. The examples visible in the theory box are: You should have a rest! and You shouldn’t eat so much.
