Как понять правило

• I am, he/she/it is, you/we/they are.
  В краткой форме: I’m, he’s, they’re.
• Отрицание: isn’t — для he/she/it, aren’t — для you/we/they, I’m not — для I.
• my, your, his, her, our, their ставятся перед существительным:
  my book, their house.
• mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs употребляются без существительного:
  This book is mine.
• Название страны: England, а национальность или прилагательное: English, Brazilian.
• Перед словом с согласным звуком ставим a: a student, a journey, a great author.
