A blood bank is a place where donated blood is stored that can later be used in transfusions. People can contribute to the blood bank by making a donation. However, before their donated blood can be used, scientists must conduct a test to determine its type. Our blood types are something we inherit from our parents. It’s important for people to receive a compatible blood type because when incompatible types mix, the blood cells clump together. In a patient, this could cause the blood to clot and could even be fatal.
