Почему так

• than указывает на сравнительную степень: tall → taller, old → older.
• in the class / in the band указывает на превосходную степень: the most beautiful, the waviest.
• funny → funnier: буква y меняется на i.
• slim → slimmer: последняя согласная m удваивается.
• wavy → waviest: y меняется на i и добавляется -est.
• Длинные прилагательные образуют степени с more/most: the most beautiful, the most hard-working.

Проверь: в предложениях с than стоят сравнительные формы, а с in the class/band — превосходные.
