My Favourite Holiday
My favourite holiday is New Year. It is a traditional family celebration. People celebrate it on the night of 31 December and 1 January. We welcome the new year and hope it will bring happiness and good luck.
Before the holiday, my family cleans and decorates our flat. We put up a Christmas tree and prepare traditional food. My mother bakes a cake, and we make salads. We also buy presents for our relatives.
On New Year’s Eve, we have dinner together and listen to music. At midnight, we listen to the Kremlin clock chimes, make a wish, and kiss and wish each other “Happy New Year!” After that, we call our friends and visit our relatives.
At the end of the celebration, everyone feels tired but happy. I love New Year because it brings my family together and gives us hope for a wonderful year.

My Favourite Holiday — 8 March
My favourite holiday is International Women’s Day. It is a popular spring holiday in Russia. People celebrate it on 8 March to show their love and respect for women. We usually celebrate it at home with our families or visit our relatives.
A few days before the holiday, people buy flowers and presents. Families clean and decorate their homes. Children make cards and help to prepare a festive meal. Many people also bake cakes and biscuits.
On 8 March, men and children congratulate women and give them flowers, cards and presents. Families have a special dinner, drink tea and eat a cake. People listen to music, talk, take photos and visit their mothers, grandmothers and other relatives.
At the end of the day, everyone feels happy and excited. I like this holiday because it brings families together and gives us an opportunity to show our love and care.
