Parsing grammar choices
I need to parse the sentences and find the correct verb forms.
In the first sentence, “She can't come to the phone now because she is studying for tomorrow's test” fits best.
For the second, “They usually play basketball on Fridays" works since it indicates a routine.
In the third example, “I have finished my work already” is right because of the word "already," which implies completion.
Finally, for the last sentence, I think “I am finishing breakfast right now” would be appropriate too.Completing the sentences
I'm working through some sentence completions. For "She ______ since Monday," I’m deciding on "has been sick."
Next, for "She ______ since noon," I think "has been sleeping" fits well.
Then, I have some phrasal verbs to fill in:
- "Dan came up with some great ideas for his grandparents' anniversary celebration."
- "I think I'm coming down with the flu."
- "She came into a lot of money when her uncle died."
- "Why don’t you come over to our place when you finish work?"Clarifying phrasal verbs
I’m figuring out the right phrasal verbs for a few sentences. For "They come ______ at least once a week for a visit," I’m considering "come across." But wait, does "come across" really mean to visit?
I should double-check my list: "across, into, over, up with, down with." For example, "Dan came up with some great ideas," and "I'm coming down with the flu."
“Come over” fits well for visiting too, so it’s tricky!
Also, text A mentions parking and road closures in the city center — that’s useful context!
