Как понять принцип

• past — минуты после часа: 8:25 = twenty-five past eight.
• to — минуты до следующего часа: 1:45 = a quarter to two.
• a quarter = 15 минут, half = 30 минут.
• between — между двумя предметами, opposite — напротив, behind — позади, next to — рядом.
• В утвердительных предложениях обычно используется some, а в вопросах и отрицаниях — any/anything/anybody.
• on употребляется с датами, in — с годами и частями дня, at — с точным временем.

Проверка: 1:45 — это 15 минут до 2 часов, поэтому правильно a quarter to two, а 7:30 — 30 минут после 7, поэтому half past seven.
