Принцип: фразовый глагол состоит из глагола и частицы, которая меняет его значение: get over — «пережить», look up to — «восхищаться». В прошедшем времени меняется глагол: make → made, grow → grown, fall → fell. В разделяемых фразовых глаголах местоимение ставится между частями: cheer me up, tell him off, bring me up.
