1. Упражнение 3 — степени сравнения

1. Mary is younger than her sister Jane.
2. Barbara is the youngest of four sisters.
3. John is cleverer / more clever than his friend Bob.
4. Richard is the cleverest / the most clever boy in this group.
5. Sirius is brighter than the Polar Star.
6. The Polar Star is the brightest star in the north hemisphere.
7. The bedroom is darker than the kitchen.
8. The wall-papers in the hall are darker than in our flat.
9. Your answer was more unusual than the answer of her son.
10. Elizabeth suggested the most unusual way out.

Как понять:

• есть than → сравнительная степень: younger, brighter, darker, more unusual;
• есть of / in или выделяется один предмет из всех → превосходная: the youngest, the brightest, the cleverest, the most unusual;
• короткие слова получают -er / -est, длинные — more / the most.
  Проверка: пары brighter — the brightest и more unusual — the most unusual показывают этот принцип.

2. Task 1 — вопросы к тексту «Our House and Flat»

Это примерные вопросы, ответы даны для проверки:

1. Where is the family’s flat? — In a new nine-storeyed block of flats in Pushkin Street, on the fourth floor.
2. What modern conveniences are there in the flat? — Central heating, gas, electricity, cold and hot water, a lift and a rubbish chute.
3. How many rooms are there in the flat? — Three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall.
4. Which room is the largest and most comfortable? — The living-room.
5. What is there in the living-room? — A square table with six chairs, a wall-unit, a piano, a TV table, two armchairs, a sofa and a lamp.
6. What is the bedroom like? — It is smaller and not so light as the living-room; there are two beds, a bedside-table, a wardrobe and a carpet.
7. What is there in the study? — A writing-table, an armchair, a bookcase, a small table with a radio and a sofa.
8. Why is the kitchen the warmest place in the flat? — Because the whole family gathers there every evening.

3. Task 2 — слова и пропуски

Перевод слов:

• friends — друзья
• flat — квартира
• wall — стена
• room — комната
• carpet — ковёр
• bedroom — спальня
• shelves — полки
• furniture — мебель
• interesting book — интересная книга
• bed — кровать
• arm-chair — кресло
• panels — панели

Пропуски, которые видны на фото:

1. flat
2. room
3. bedroom
4. furniture
5. bed
6. interesting books — здесь нужно множественное число: «интересные книги».

Получается:

We live in a three-room flat. The room I like best in our flat is mine. I use my room as a study and a bedroom. There isn’t much furniture in it. On the left there is my bed and a desk. The desk has a lot of drawers where I keep my text-books, notes, pens, interesting books and other things.

После №6 текст на фото обрывается, поэтому остальные пропуски без следующего кадра лучше не угадывать.
