• crime or strange event → mystery.

В задании B важно не только значение слова, но и устойчивое выражение:

• solve a problem — решить проблему;
• at first glance — на первый взгляд;
• explore the woods — исследовать лес;
• use a compass — пользоваться компасом;
• initials on a shirt — инициалы на рубашке.

Слово several уже использовано в примере, поэтому в пропусках 7–16 оно не нужно.
