In Russia, schooling begins at the age of six or seven. In most schools, parents do not pay for their children, as these schools are state schools and are free. Secondary education starts at the age of ten. Pupils study different subjects: Art, Music, English and other subjects. Most schools require pupils to wear uniforms of various colours. The school week lasts five or six days, with five or six lessons daily. Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 2–3 p.m. There are short breaks after each lesson and a longer lunch break. The school year consists of three or four terms, with holidays in every season; summer holidays are the longest.
