Понимаю: после двухлетнего перерыва контрольная выглядит страшно, но здесь проверяют не «весь английский», а несколько повторяющихся шаблонов. За вечер реально закрыть самое частое.

Что понять в первую очередь

Past Simple
Утверждение: глагол во 2-й форме: saw, wanted, caught.
Вопрос и отрицание: did/didn’t + начальная форма: Did he explore?, He didn’t explore.
used to — «раньше делал, сейчас уже нет»
John used to play football.
Отрицание: John didn’t use to play football. — после didn’t пишем use, без -d.
Вопрос: Did John use to play football?
Слова-связки
as soon as — как только; until — до тех пор пока; after — после; when — когда; then — затем.
Complex Object
want somebody to do something: Professor wanted Hans to explore...
hear somebody do something: I heard him come in — после hear без to.
Лексика — учить словосочетаниями: solve a crime, tell a story, use a magnifying glass, а не отдельные слова.
