| № | Attraction | Brief information (English) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Tower of London | A royal fortress on the River Thames, founded in 1078 by William the Conqueror. It was a palace, a prison and a place of execution; today it is a museum and the home of the Crown Jewels. |
| 2 | Tower Bridge | A Victorian bridge over the Thames, opened in 1894. Its two towers and lifting road let big ships pass, and visitors can walk across the glass floor of the upper walkways. |
| 3 | Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower) | The clock tower of the Palace of Westminster, built in 1859. The name "Big Ben" really belongs to the 13.5-tonne bell inside; the tower is 96 metres tall. |
| 4 | The Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament) | The seat of the British Parliament, rebuilt in Gothic Revival style after a fire in 1834. The House of Commons and the House of Lords meet here. |
| 5 | Buckingham Palace | The official London home of the monarch since 1837. It has 775 rooms, and the famous Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place in front of it. |
| 6 | Westminster Abbey | A Gothic church built in 1245–1517. English monarchs have been crowned here since 1066, and many famous writers and scientists are buried inside. |
| 7 | Trafalgar Square | A public square laid out in 1841 to commemorate Nelson's victory at Trafalgar. It has Nelson's Column (52 m), fountains and the National Gallery. |
| 8 | The British Museum | Founded in 1753, one of the largest museums in the world. It is famous for the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies and the Parthenon sculptures; entry is free. |
| 9 | The London Eye | A giant observation wheel on the South Bank, opened in 2000 to celebrate the millennium. It is 135 metres high, and one rotation takes about 30 minutes. |
| 10 | St Paul's Cathedral | Designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London of 1666 and completed in 1710. It is famous for its huge dome and the Whispering Gallery. |
Hyde Park, The Shard, Madame Tussauds, the Natural History Museum, Shakespeare's Globe, Covent Garden.
→ a castle / a bridge / a museum / a square / a park / a cathedral / a palace
→ in the centre of London / on the River Thames / in the South Bank; built in 1894, designed by…, opened in…
→ It is famous for… / You can see… / Visitors can…
- что: a large royal park
- где/когда: in the centre of London, opened to the public in 1637
- чем знаменито: the Serpentine lake and Speakers' Corner, where anyone may speak
→ Hyde Park is a large royal park in the centre of London, opened to the public in 1637. It is famous for the Serpentine lake and Speakers' Corner, where anyone can make a speech.
It is located in… · It was built/opened/founded in… · It was designed by… · It is famous for… · It is one of the oldest/largest… in the world · It is … metres high · You can see/visit… · Entry is free / Tickets cost…
- Времена: объект существует сейчас → is / has; построен в прошлом → was built.
- Заглавные буквы в названиях: the Tower of London, the British Museum, Tower Bridge (без the).
