The Hen and the Golden Egg (a Russian folk tale)
What is it about? It is a short tale about an old couple, their hen and a golden egg that brought them only trouble.
Main characters: Grandpa, Grandma, the hen Ryaba (a kind, helpful hen) and a little mouse.
What happens: Grandpa and Grandma had a hen called Ryaba. One day she laid a golden egg. Grandpa hit it, Grandma hit it — the egg did not break. Then a mouse ran across the table, touched the egg with its tail and the egg fell and broke. The old people began to cry. But the hen said: "Don't cry. I will lay you a new egg — not a golden one, but a simple white egg."
Moral values: the tale teaches us to value simple, everyday things and not to cry over what is lost. Gold looks beautiful, but an ordinary egg is more useful. It also teaches kindness and consolation.
Как делать похожее задание (принцип)
Упражнение состоит из четырёх блоков — по одному вопросу на каждый. Это и есть «скелет» проекта:
- What is it about? — 1–2 предложения: кто + что произошло + чем всё закончилось.
- Who are the main characters? — перечисли героев с одним прилагательным к каждому (kind, hard-working, greedy, clever, silly). Это же пригодится в задании 3а на странице.
- What happens in the story? — цепочка событий в Past Simple, сцепленная словами-связками: One day… Then… Suddenly… In the end… Не пересказывай всё подробно — для журнала нужны 4–6 предложений.
- What moral values does the text suggest? — одна-две фразы о смысле: The tale teaches us to…
Проверка твоего текста
- Времена: события — Past Simple (laid, hit, broke, cried, said), смысл сказки — Present Simple (teaches, tells us).
- Связки: one day, then, suddenly, but, in the end — без них рассказ рассыпается.
- Объём для журнала: примерно 60–100 слов, 1 абзац на каждый пункт.
- Заголовок + подзаголовок "(a Russian folk tale)" — читателю журнала нужно понимать, откуда сказка.
