- официальными названиями государств с States, Kingdom, Union, Republic, Emirates: the USA, the UK, the Soviet Union, the UAE;
- словом world: the world.
Без артикля обычно:
- страны: Russia, France, China;
- города: London, Minsk, Los Angeles;
- континенты и части света: Europe, Africa, South America;
- отдельные горы и вершины: Everest, Mont Blanc, Ben Nevis;
- отдельные острова: Madagascar.
Проверка: the Thames — река, поэтому the; London — город, поэтому без артикля. the Alps — горная цепь, поэтому the; Everest — отдельная вершина, поэтому без артикля.
