Halloween is a festival celebrated on 31 October, when people wear costumes, decorate homes and go trick-or-treating. It can be seen both as a cultural phenomenon and as a commercial holiday.
On the one hand, Halloween has deep cultural roots. It developed from ancient traditions and now brings communities together through costume parties, neighbourhood events and creative decorations. For example, children learn about folklore and take part in shared celebrations.
On the other hand, Halloween is highly commercialised. Shops sell expensive costumes, sweets and decorations, while advertising encourages people to spend more. Moreover, original traditions are often reduced to horror images and shopping. For example, many celebrations now focus on buying things rather than understanding the festival’s history.
In my opinion, Halloween is mainly an interesting cultural phenomenon, although commercialisation has changed it. Its traditions and community spirit are more valuable than the money spent on it.
