Child Labour in 19th-Century Russia

In the 19th century, many poor Russian children worked to help their families. They worked on farms, in factories and workshops, in mines, or as servants. Their working hours were long, their pay was very low, and the conditions were often dangerous. Most children had little time for school, so their lives were hard.
