NATIONAL UNITY DAY [Рисунок: справа два воина в исторических доспехах; слева воин в красном плаще с копьём, справа воин в зелёном плаще со щитом.] National Unity Day is celebrated in Russia on 4 November. The holiday is dedicated to the events of 1612, when a people's army led by Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky freed Moscow from Polish invaders. These events became an important part of Russian history and a symbol of unity.
The holiday is connected with the Time of Troubles (aka Smuta), a period of serious political crisis in Russia in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. During this difficult time, people came together to protect their country and bring peace back.
In modern Russia, National Unity Day was established in 2004 and was celebrated for the first time in 2005. It replaced the holiday on 7 November, which was previously connected with the October Revolution.
Today, 4 November reminds us of the importance of unity, helping each other and respecting people of different nationalities. On this day, concerts, exhibitions and cultural and educational events take place across the country. National Unity Day encourages us to remember our country's history and value peace and harmony.
