Как выбирать

1. Найди слово, к которому относится придаточное: человек, предмет, место, время или причина.

2. Посмотри на роль слова внутри придаточного:
человек-подлежащее — who;

человек-дополнение — who/whom, а после предлога — whom;

принадлежность — whose;

предмет — which/that;

место — where;

время — when;

причина — why.

3. После предлога (to, for, about) обычно ставим whom или which, но не that.

Проверка

The hotel where we stayed = The hotel in which we stayed.

The person to whom you should complain: глагол complain требует предлог to.

The keys which you were looking for: look for — предлог for остаётся в конце, поэтому нужен which/that.
