Slide 1. Title

The Olympic Games Project by [имя], Form [класс], School [номер]

Slide 2. Introduction

The Olympic Games are the biggest international sports competition. Athletes from more than 200 countries take part in them. The Games happen every four years: Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics take turns every two years.

Slide 3. History

The first Olympic Games were held in Ancient Greece in 776 BC, in the city of Olympia. They were a religious festival in honour of Zeus. In 394 AD the Roman Emperor stopped the Games. In 1896 the Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin brought them back: the first modern Olympics took place in Athens.

Slide 4. Symbols

The main symbol is five rings. They show five continents joined together. The Olympic flag is white with these rings. The Olympic flame is lit in Olympia and travels to the host city in a torch relay. The motto is "Citius, Altius, Fortius — Communiter": faster, higher, stronger — together.

Slide 5. Sports

There are many Olympic sports: athletics, swimming, gymnastics, football, basketball, boxing, skiing and figure skating. Some sports are in the Summer Games, some are in the Winter Games.

Slide 6. Interesting facts

Russia hosted the Olympics twice: the Summer Games in Moscow in 1980 and the Winter Games in Sochi in 2014. Medals are made of gold, silver and bronze. The winner gets gold, the second place gets silver, the third gets bronze. Animals are mascots of the Games.

Slide 7. Conclusion

The Olympic Games bring people of different countries together. They teach us to be strong, fair and friendly. I like watching the Olympics because sport is exciting and it unites the world.

Например: «The Olympic flag is white with these rings» (что) + даты в слайде об истории (когда).
Past Simple (were held, took place, stopped, brought back).
Трудные конструкции заменяй: «Не is a person who…» → «Pierre de Coubertin brought them back».

English Русский
to take place / to be held проходить, проводиться
to bring people together объединять людей

776 BC, 1896, 2014, 200 countries.

The Olympic Games

Introduction

The Olympic Games are the biggest international sports competition in the world. Athletes from more than two hundred countries take part in them. The Games are held every four years, and since 1994 the Summer and the Winter Olympics take turns, so a big sports festival happens every two years. Millions of people watch the Olympics on TV, and for many sportsmen it is the main dream of their life.

A short history

The Olympic Games appeared in Ancient Greece. The first Games were held in 776 BC in Olympia, a small town in the south of Greece. They were a religious festival in honour of Zeus, the most important Greek god. For five days the wars stopped, and people came to watch running, wrestling and chariot races. In 394 AD the Roman Emperor banned the Games, and they disappeared for many centuries. In 1896 a Frenchman, Pierre de Coubertin, brought them back. The first modern Olympic Games took place in Athens, and since then they have never stopped.

Symbols of the Olympics

The most famous symbol is the five Olympic rings. They stand for five continents joined together in sport. The Olympic flag is white with these rings in the centre. Another important symbol is the Olympic flame. It is lit in Olympia and then carried to the host city by a long torch relay. The Olympic motto is "Faster, higher, stronger — together". It means that people should do their best and support each other.

Sports and medals

There are many Olympic sports: athletics, swimming, gymnastics, football, basketball, boxing, skiing, figure skating and others. Some of them belong to the Summer Games, some to the Winter Games. The winners receive medals: gold for the first place, silver for the second and bronze for the third. Medals are given not only for sport but also for fair play and respect for the rivals.

Interesting facts

Russia hosted the Olympic Games twice. The Summer Games took place in Moscow in 1980, and the Winter Games were held in Sochi in 2014. Every Olympics has its own mascot — usually an animal or a funny character. The longest Olympics in history were the Games in London in 1908: they lasted more than six months.

Conclusion

The Olympic Games are important because they bring people of different countries and cultures together. They teach us to be strong, fair and friendly, and they show that sport can unite the whole world. That is why I like watching the Olympics and why this topic seems interesting to me.

  4. Времена: рассказ о правилах и символах — Present Simple (are held, stand for), рассказ о прошлом — Past Simple (were held, banned, took place).
