They started 'Red Nose Day, a day whenpeople across the UK get together for fundraisingactivites. People buy red noses and all of the moneyfrom this goes towards Comic Relief. The moneyraised by Comic Relief helps people living in difficultconditions in the UK and around the world, and it'sestimated that over 50 million people would be worseoff today if the charity hadn't been set up. If it weren'tfor Comic Relief, literacy rates in Uganda wouldprobably not have reached 73%. And the number ofchildren attending primary school in Africa mightnot have increased by 60 million if the charity didn'texist. In 2015, the British public donated a staggering£78.1 million, bringing the total raised by ComicRelief in its thirty-year history to over £1 billion. Butit couldn't have achieved all this if it didn't have thesupport of the comedians who take part and inspirethe public to give so generously.
