Brenda

Emily

Emily touched the button on the top of her bedside clock. It glowed 5.56 a.m. Another four minutes and it would have 30 ______ her with the early morning news. By the time it was 6.00 a.m, Emily had decided exactly what she had to do if the chairman was unwilling to go along with her recommendations. A trip to Thailand

I have always been interested in various cultures especially those completely alien to us. Thus, imagine my delight when my father 30 ______ me that he was taking us on a holiday to Bangkok and from there to visit a remote tribe that lives about 200 kilometers north of the capital city. As my father explained, the tribe lives an isolated life and the members are cut 31 ______ from the rest of the world in terms of their unique and even weird cultural practices.

St. Paul’s School

I have sweet memories of my childhood and my family. I also 30 _______ going to St. Paul’s School at the age of eleven. There I was made to work really hard for the first time in my life. Consuela

Victor Rosenheim, an American banker, was Consuela’s third husband. At first 30 ______ they looked happy. The gossip columns, however, were suggesting that the former Colombian model was already searching for the next husband. The Rosenheims flew into London from their home in New York. Dr Tomas Strayer looked around the control room at his team of scientists and engineers. He was 30_________ to be calm, but he was both excited and terrified.

Smart homes

The beginning of the 21st century saw a revolution in home-living with new technology changing the places where we live, and it seems technology could be changing our homes again. A research 30_________ out by Johann Siau, Senior Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire’s School of Engineering and Technology, builds on the University’s InterHome project – 31_________ at creating a home that monitors people living at home who are ill or elderly.

‘We’ve developed a wrist-band type device,’ says Johann Siau, ‘which allows us to monitor the condition of an elderly person, or 32_________ is wearing the device. It connects an elderly person with an assisted-living type device with the InterHome.’ The assisted-living project is part of the University’s wider InterHome project, which is the development of a smart house.

The InterHome incorporates the latest broadband technology, mobile data and communication. Researchers and students make sure all the technology works together. A day in Chicago

Lily and her best friend Zoe were driving home from their vacation in California. That was a great adventure which they were enjoying a lot. They 30 ______ to visit so many interesting places.
