Hello to everyone watching at home. I am Luke, and I am standing here in the TV studio with the lights warming up and the cameras rolling. The host is smiling, the crew is moving quietly behind the scenes, and the audience is tuning in from around the country.

Earlier this morning I was waking up to the sound of my alarm, and I was thinking about the race I am about to run. I was traveling to the stadium while the city was waking up, and I was warming up backstage as the nerves were buzzing in my stomach. I am telling you this because the start of a day like this is never predictable; the nerves are real, and the focus is the only thing that stays constant.

Now the interview is starting, and I am answering your questions while the clock is ticking. The producer is guiding the flow, and the studio is quieting down as everyone settles in. I was listening to my coach’s advice while the crowd outside the doors was growing louder, and I was trying to block out every distraction. I am describing the moment when the whistle finally goes off, and I am finding my rhythm as the race begins.

During the race I was running through the city streets, and I was counting strides to keep my pace. I was feeling my legs burn a little, but I was breathing steadily and thinking of my training. The wind was against me at times, and the supporters were shouting as I passed each kilometer. I am cherishing those moments when I am telling myself to stay loose and keep a straight line.

Crossing the finish line I am raising my arms, and the crowd is erupting in cheers. The announcer is calling out my name, and the banners are fluttering in the breeze. I was catching my breath and was savoring the sense of completion, while the medal was being placed around my neck. I am grateful for the effort that brought me here, and I was surprised by how many messages of support were already waiting for me online.

Backstage I was shaking hands with teammates and was sharing a quick laugh with the staff. Now I am turning back to you, the viewers at home, and I am hoping my story is inspiring you to start your own journey. I was nervous at the start, and I am confident because I kept going, one step at a time. Thank you for listening; I am excited for what comes next, and I was already picturing the road ahead.
