    My second visit

It was my second visit to Dr Boxer. He answered the door exactly as he had done the first time, by opening only a crack and looking through it warily, as if there were something that he was 30 ______ not everyone should see. He 31 ______ me of a gatekeeper in a fairy story: ageless and watchful. It was a feeling I would come to know well in the next months. Even now, years later and far away, sometimes in my dreams, I find myself standing before that white door, 32 ______  for him to open it. When he 33 ______ it was me, he opened the door slightly wider than he had done the first time. He let me in.

It was a beautiful room, not an office at all, and much bigger than it looked from outside – airy and white, with a high ceiling and two windows. In the corner, near a low bookshelf, was a big round table with teapots and Greek books, and there were flowers everywhere. I was surprised and 34______ at the same time. Everywhere I looked, there was something beautiful – Oriental carpets, tiny paintings and white vases with flowers. He sat in an armchair by the window and said, “I 35______ you’ve come about the Greek class.”

    “Yes.”

“It’s rather late in the term,” he said. “Young people often find Greek a bore, which is not to say that it isn’t good for them.”

“I’d like to study it again. It seems a shame to 36 ______ it after two years”.

After a moment Dr Boxer said slowly, “If you’d like, I’d be happy to take you as a pupil, Mr Brown.”

    From City To Country

I moved here during mid-September, and truth be told, on arrival, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Imagine doing endless searches 30. __________ Google for your new home and finding little more than a picture of an old bridge and some greenery, indeed, incredibly scenic, but perhaps a little out of my comfort zone. I’m normally a city girl 31. __________  the University of Leeds, and I have to admit, I’m spoilt for choice with shopping, nightlife, and most importantly, meeting people my own age, given that Leeds boasts a large student population.

Le Vigan couldn’t be more different; one could describe it as a quiet, peaceful place, suited for those looking to make retirement as relaxing as possible. I soon found out, after several more searches 32. __________  the Internet, that this tiny French town holds just 4,000 people, something that instantly horrified me. I’m used to being 33. __________  a lively student atmosphere, and the norm being that 90% of the people you see everyday are unfamiliar. It’s fair to say I was initially dreading my year abroad.

However, after 2 months, I have fallen in love with this hidden French gem. Yes, it is quiet, and yes it has been difficult to make friends, but I feel part of something special, a French community who are starting to recognise me as one of their own. I never expected to become so attached to such a small, rural place, but I did. I like being acknowledged 34. __________  the street by the locals. I have got used to shopping 35. __________ those little beautiful stores. I can call this place 36. __________ home now.
