Bill: Hi, Anna. Oh, you look so happy. You're beaming. I wonder why.
Anna: Oh, hi, Bill. It's good to see you. Well, you know what? My mum has just phoned me. She says my dog has just come back. It's wonderful.
Bill: Do you have a dog? I didn't know that.
Anna: Well, I had a dog a year ago and we've known each other for half a year only. So I guess you can't know I had a dog.
Bill: Right. So you had a dog and then it ran away, didn't it?
Anna: Well, actually Rover disappeared from our garden last summer. My mum believes it was stolen, but we can't know it for sure. Maybe it was just chasing a cat and got lost. One minute it was playing in the garden and the next minute it was gone. Anyway, we were so upset when it happened. We've been missing our Rover.
Bill: Of course you have. Dogs are very friendly creatures and you fall in love with them quickly and easily. Did you look for it?
Anna: Sure. We immediately began a full scale search for it. You know, we posted its photos and asked everybody in the neighbourhood but Rover was nowhere to be found.
Bill: Oh, poor thing. It's always hard to look for lost pets, even if you offer money for any information about them.
Anna: Now, Rover's back. They say dogs are very clever and can find their way home, even if they have to cover a long distance to find their master. There must be a grain of truth in such stories then.
Bill: Yes, when you are watching a film like A Way Home, you know, you kind of find it hard to believe it's a true story. But the example of Rover certainly proves such things can happen. How is it now?
Anna: Well, Mum says it's lost a lot of weight and looks horribly dirty, but that's not important. We'll take it to the vet to check its health and wash it and feed it.
Bill: Well, I'm sure in a couple of weeks Rover will be fit and well. I'd like to see it. I love dogs very much.
Anna: Why don't you get your own dog then, Bill?
Bill: I wish I could get one, but I can't. My brother is allergic to dogs. Sorry to say.
Anna: Then of course you can come to my place. Will the weekend suit you? I think Rover needs some peace and quiet for a couple of days. At the weekend. We can take it to the park and play with it.
Bill: It sounds great, Anna. I'll give you a call on Friday evening, then.
Anna: It's a date.
